Lanreotide
Lanreotide is a somatostatin analogue which inhibits the release of growth hormone and other hormones. It is approved under the brand name Somatuline® Autogel® in several EU and other countries and marketed by Ipsen Limited for the treatment of acromegaly and neuroendocrine tumors. On July 17, 2006, Health Canada approved Somatuline® Autogel® for the long-term treatment of patients with acromegaly due to pituitary tumors who have had inadequate response to or cannot be treated with surgery and/or radiotherapy and for the relief of symptoms associated with acromegaly.
In early 2007, Tercica expects to launch Somatuline® Autogel® in Canada. Furthermore, a New Drug Application was submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on October 30, 2006, with an FDA decision on the approval expected in September 2007. Pending approval, Tercica is planning for a US launch of Somatuline® Autogel® in the second half of 2007.
