John A. Scarlett, MD
President and Chief Executive Officer

Prior to co-founding Tercica and assuming the role of chief executive officer, John A. Scarlett, MD founded and served as chief executive officer of another Genentech licensee, Sensus Drug Development Corporation through its drug approval for SOMAVERT and later sale to Pharmacia.   Dr. Scarlett also co-founded biologics manufacturer Covance Biotechnology Services, Inc. (CBSI).   Previously, Dr. Scarlett served as head of the North American Clinical Development Organization and senior vice president of Medical and Scientific affairs at Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, Inc.  Prior to Novo, Dr. Scarlett headed the clinical development group at Greenwich Pharmaceuticals, and served McNeil Pharmaceuticals (Johnson & Johnson) in several positions, including director of Medical Research and Services.  Dr. Scarlett holds an MD with Honors from the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine at the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania, and in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Colorado, where he was the recipient of the Solomon A. Berson Award of the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

Ross G. Clark, PhD
Chief Technical Officer and Founder

From 1980-87, Ross Clark, PhD was a researcher at the Medical Research Council laboratories at Mill Hill in London followed by 10 years as a consultant and a senior scientist in the Research Department at Genentech.   While there, Dr. Clark led the pre-clinical development and guided key research programs for GH secretagogues, GH, IGF-1, and small molecule IGF's.   Following Genentech, Dr. Clark served as chief scientist at NeuronZ, was a founding member of ViaLactica Biosciences, and founded Tercica.   Dr. Clark has held the post of Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Auckland.   He earned his PhD in Veterinary Physiology from Massey University, New Zealand.   Dr. Clark is an inventor on over 40 issued United States patents, has published more than 100 scientific publications, and has served as an editor of several endocrine journals.

Richard A. King
Chief Operating Officer

Prior to joining the company as Chief Operating Officer in February 2007, Richard A. King previously served as Executive Vice President, Commercial Operations of Kos Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 2002 to 2006, where he was responsible for sales, marketing, managed care, sales operations and customer service functions. Under his commercial leadership, Kos realized revenue growth from $90 million in 2001 to approximately $750 million in 2005. Kos attained profitability in 2003, and by 2006, when the company was acquired by Abbott Laboratories, Mr. King had approximately 1,000 professional personnel reporting to him.

Prior to his employment at Kos, from 2000 to 2002 Mr. King was Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations at Solvay Pharmaceuticals, and from 1992 to 2000, held various marketing positions at SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals. A native of the United Kingdom, Mr. King began his career in the pharmaceutical industry at Lederle Laboratories, Ltd. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Surrey, and an MBA from Manchester Business School.

Ajay Bansal
Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance, Corporate Development and Corporate Communications

Prior to joining the company, Ajay Bansal was employed by Nektar Therapeutics where he served as vice president of Finance and Administration and chief financial officer from February 2003 to January 2006.  From July 2002 until joining Nektar, Mr. Bansal served as director of Operations Analysis at Capital One Financial.  From August 1998 to June 2002, Mr. Bansal was at Mehta Partners LLC, a financial advisory firm where he was named partner in January 2000. Prior to joining Mehta Partners, Mr. Bansal spent more than 10 years in management roles at Novartis and in consulting at Arthur D. Little, Inc., McKinsey & Company, Inc. and ZS Associates.  Mr. Bansal holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi), an M.S. in Operations Management from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University.

Stephen N. Rosenfield
Executive Vice President of Legal Affairs, General Counsel and Secretary

Stephen N. Rosenfield most recently served as executive vice president of Legal Affairs, general counsel and Secretary of InterMune, Inc.  During his tenure at InterMune, Mr. Rosenfield was instrumental in building and managing the legal department.  Prior to working at InterMune, Mr. Rosenfield was an attorney at Cooley Godward LLP where he was outside counsel for biotechnology and technology clients.  Mr. Rosenfield's earlier legal counsel experience was in litigation at Coblentz, Patch, Duffy and Bass from 1992 to 1996.  He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Northeastern University School of Law and received his Bachelors of Science degree from Hofstra University.

Thorsten von Stein, M.D., Ph.D.
Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer

Thorsten von Stein, MD, PhD joined Tercica from Neurogesx where he served most recently as chief medical officer, and previously, as vice president, Clinical Development.  Prior to his tenure at Neurogesx, from 1994 to 2001, Dr. von Stein held positions of increasing responsibility in medical research, global clinical development and project management for Roche Palo Alto and F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG in Basel, Switzerland.  Dr. von Stein received his M.D. degree from Munich University, Germany, and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Hamburg, Germany.

Andrew Grethlein, PhD
Senior Vice President, Pharmaceutical Operations

Prior to joining Tercica in 2003, Andrew Grethlein served at Athena Neurosciences and Élan, most recently as senior director and site head, South San Francisco Pharmaceutical Operations.  In this capacity, Dr. Grethlein held responsibility for commercial GMP manufacturing operations for MyoBloc?(Botulinum Toxin Type B) Injectable Solution.  While at Athena and Élan, Dr. Grethlein held positions of responsibility for clinical manufacturing, facility design, construction, and start-up, and manufacturing operations in support of product licensure in the United States and EU.  He also served in various engineering capacities for non-profit research and business development corporation Michigan Biotechnology Institute and its subsidiary Grand River Technologies, Inc.   Dr. Grethlein earned his BS in Biology from Bates College and an MS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University.

Susan Wong
Vice President Finance & Chief Accounting Officer

Prior to joining Tercica, Susan Wong was an independent financial services consultant and prior to that was senior vice president and Corporate Controller at innoVentry Corp., a privately held provider of fee-based financial services.  She also served as vice president and corporate controller at Ocular Sciences, Inc., a publicly held manufacturer and distributor of soft contact lenses.  Prior to Ocular Sciences, Ms. Wong served as director of Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting, Planning & Analysis at Vanstar, Inc.  Ms. Wong held various positions in the Audit group at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP from August 1985 to August 1989.  Ms. Wong is a Certified Public Accountant, and received her B.S. degree in finance and accounting from University of California at Berkeley.

George Bright, MD
Vice President and Medical Director, Endocrinology

Most recently, George Bright, MD was director, Growth Hormone Clinical Research at Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, where he developed clinical protocols and supervised numerous clinical trials in the statural growth area.  Previously, Dr. Bright spent nine years as a pediatric endocrinologist at Nemours Children's Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and seven years as an endocrinologist at the Medical University of South Carolina.  He has authored more than 50 publications and abstracts on advances in growth biology, and is a frequent guest lecturer on the subject at leading medical institutions.  Dr. Bright earned his MD at the University of Connecticut Medical School and was a Fellow in Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Virginia Medical School.

Sandra L. Blethen, MD, PhD
Vice President, Medical Affairs

Sandra Blethen joins Tercica from Serono, Inc. where she served as vice president, Medical Affairs, Metabolic Endocrinology. At Serono, Dr. Blethen led the development and implementation of a web-based registry for a growth hormone product. In addition, she led a team that developed a large phase IIIb clinical trial and served as medical monitor of the study. Prior to her tenure at Serono, Dr. Blethen worked at Genentech, Inc. for six years, most recently as a senior clinical scientist. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago. She obtained her doctorate in Biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley and her medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in New York.

Gordon Treadway
Vice-President, Sales

Gordon Treadway joins Tercica after four years (2003-2007) of exemplary sales management at Kos Pharmaceuticals. While at Kos, Mr. Treadway built a reputation for strategic direction, tactical execution, and leadership development behind his leadership, Mr. Treadways Western Regional sales team led Kos in overall performance in 2006.

Prior to his years at Kos, Mr. Treadway spent two years as a sales manager at Sanofi. Prior to his stint at Sanofi, he spent nine years (1992-2001) in various positions at Ross Pediatrics (Abbott Labs) as a sales rep, trainer, district manager and marketing product manager.

Mr. Treadway earned a bachelors of arts degree from Brigham Young University.

Russell Cox
Vice President, Marketing

Russell has a track record of success with a focus in Specialty Biopharmaceuticals now for 20 years beginning at Genentech. Prior to joining Tercica he was at Scios, Inc. (a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson) where he was Vice President of Marketing. During his tenure at Scios the company experienced tremendous growth in the cardiovascular market and he was awarded several Standard of Leadership awards. Prior to Johnson and Johnson Russell worked at HCORP as Vice President of Marketing and secured several significant Biopharmaceutical partnerships before selling the company. Russell started in his career in the biotechnology industry at Genentech where over a 12 year span was responsible for Sales, Sales Training, Sales Management, & Marketing. Russell led Genentech's Endocrine Marketing Group securing a leadership position in Endocrinology over several larger companies with virtually identical products. While at Genentech he was awarded the coveted Product Team Leadership Position and has led several cross functional teams through approval and launch receiving 12 marketing overachievement awards along the way. Mr. Cox holds a Bachelor of Science degree in BioMedical Science from Texas A&M University.

William Yates
Vice-President, Human Resources and Information Technology

Prior to joining Tercica, Bill Yates served as senior director, Information Technology (IT) at Intermune, Inc., a Brisbane, California-based biopharmaceutical company. At Intermune, he provided strategic IT direction and was responsible for the complete build out of the company's IT function. Prior to his tenure at Intermune, Mr. Yates spent six years in IT management roles at Novartis and Sandoz in Canada and in Basel, Switzerland. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Economics at Trent University in Ontario, Canada.

Gary W. Neumann
Vice President, Quality Operations

Gary Neumann joins Tercica with 26 years of experience in the field of pharmaceutical biotechnology. Before joining Tercica, he was Quality Assurance Director at Chiron Corporation's Vacaville manufacturing facility. In this position, Mr. Neumann was responsible for quality operations in the GMP manufacture of commercial and clinical active pharmaceutical ingredients. Before working at Chiron Corporation, Mr. Neumann worked at Genentech, Inc., where he held several positions of increasing responsibility for clinical and commercial manufacturing operations, manufacturing start-up activities, technology transfer, and manufacturing quality assurance. Mr. Neumann earned his B.A. in Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
