Alex Barkas, PhD joined our board of directors in 2002 and became Chairman in 2004. Dr. Barkas is a Managing Director of Prospect Venture Partners, a venture capital firm. Prior to co-founding Prospect Venture Partners I, II and III, he was a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers from 1991 to 1997, where he focused on healthcare product company investments. Prior to Kleiner Perkins, Dr. Barkas was a founder and CEO of BioBridge Associates, a health care industry consulting firm. Dr. Barkas is currently Chairman of the Board of Geron Corporation and Tercica, Inc., and serves on the board of directors of Amicus Therapeutics, Inc. and several private life science companies. Dr. Barkas received a Ph.D. in biology from New York University and a B.A. in Biology from Brandeis University, where he currently is Chairman of the University Science Advisory Council and serves on the Board of Trustees.

Karin Eastham serves as a director of the company. Since May 2004, Ms. Eastham has been executive vice president and chief operating officer of The Burnham Institute, a not for profit research institute.  From April 1999 to May 2004, Ms. Eastham served as senior vice president, Finance, chief financial officer, and secretary of Diversa Corporation, a genomic technology company. From April 1997 to April 1999, Ms. Eastham served as vice president, Finance and Administration and chief financial officer of CombiChem, Inc., a computational chemistry company.  From October 1992 to April 1997, Ms. Eastham served as vice president, Finance and Administration and chief financial officer of Cytel Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company.  Ms. Eastham received her B.S. degree and her M.B.A. from Indiana University.  She is a certified public accountant.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Oncosis, Inc., a biotechnology company.

Faheem Hasnain is currently the Executive Vice President, Oncology Rheumatology Strategic Business Unit at Biogen Idec, Inc., and has served in that position since October 2007. Prior to that, Mr. Hasnain had served as Biogen Idec’s Senior Vice President, Oncology Rheumatology Strategic Business Unit since February 2007 and as its Senior Vice President, Oncology Strategic Business Unit from October 2004. Before joining Biogen Idec, he served as President, Oncology Therapeutics Network at Bristol-Myers Squibb from March 2002 to September 2004. From January 2001 to February 2002, Mr. Hasnain served as Vice President, Global eBusiness at GlaxoSmithKline, and prior to 2000, he served in key commercial and entrepreneurial roles within GlaxoSmithKline and its predecessor organizations, spanning global eBusiness, international commercial operations, sales and marketing.

Christophe Jean serves as a director of the company. He was appointed group vice president, Operations of Ipsen in May 2003. A Harvard graduate, he joined the pharmaceutical industry with Ciba-Geigy, where he held several positions in sales and marketing (Brazil and Sweden) and international management. He was then appointed financial controller and information systems controller at the head office and was also a member of the pharmaceuticals executive committee. When Ciba-Geigy merged with Sandoz to create Novartis, Christophe Jean was appointed head of Europe, the Middle East and Africa region. In 2000, he became chairman and chief executive officer of Pierre Fabre Médicaments. He joined Ipsen in September 2002, initially in charge of creating the strategic planning and strategic marketing departments.

Mark Leschly serves as a director of the company. Since July 1999, Mr. Leschly has been a managing partner with Rho Capital Partners, Inc., an investment and venture capital management company.  From 1994 to July 1999, Mr. Leschly was an associate and then a general partner of Healthcare Ventures L.L.C., a venture capital management company. From 1991 to 1993, Mr. Leschly served as a consultant for McKinsey & Co., a management consulting company.  Mr. Leschly is currently a director of Diversa Corporation, a genomic technology company, and NitroMed, Inc., a genomic technology company.  He received his B.A. degree in history from Harvard University and his M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

David L. Mahoney serves as a director of the company.  Mahoney served as co-chief executive officer of McKesson HBOC, Inc. and as chief executive officer of iMcKesson LLC from July 1999 to February 2001.  He joined McKesson in 1990 as vice president for Strategic Planning.  From 1981 to 1990, prior to joining McKesson, Mahoney was a principal with McKinsey and Company, a management consulting company.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of Corcept Therapeutics, Symantec Corporation, Live Oak School and KQED.  Mahoney has a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a Master's of Business Administration from Harvard University.
